KATI demands similar standardization for entire country

Leadership of Korangi Association of Trade & Industry (KATI) demanded similar implementation of standardizations for entire country. President of KATI Sheikh Umer Rehan while Speaking to a delegation of Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA) headed by Director General Abdul Aleem Memon , urged that standardization of industry should be similar for all provinces and asked to revoke double marking fee on Ghee and edible oil industry.

A delegation of PSQCA called on KATI. On this occasion Chairman & CEO KITE Zubair Chhaya, Senator Abdul Haseeb Khan, Senior Vice President Muhammad Ikram Rajput, Vice President Syed Wajid Hussain, Head of KATI’s standing committee on Food Security & Health Omer Qasim, Syed Farrukh Mazhar, Senior Vice Chairman PVMA Sheikh Basit Ikram and others also spoke to the meeting.

Sheikh Umer Rehan said that PSQCA is a vital institution for the development and maintaining standards of Industry in the country. He said that after establishment of Provincial Food Authorities there is a confusion prevailed in the industry regarding localized standardizations and from the platform of KATI we demand for single system of standardization for the entire country. He cited that PM Khan always emphasizes on ease of doing business and lower cost of doing business. He said that keeping in this view double marking fee on Ghee and Edible oil industry should be immediately revoked.

While speaking to the meeting DG PSQCA said that the authority had raised the issue regarding multiple standardizations on provincial bases and he already aware of the complexity of this problem, “the matter had also been discussed in the Council of Common affairs and a positive decision would be announced soon” he assured. He told that a proposal regarding concern on double marking fee issue also had been sent to the concerned ministry and this issue would be resolved soon. Senator Abdul Haseeb Khan said that industry is ready to cooperate on every level to maintain production standards and we expect the same spirit form the concerned authorities.

Zubair Chhaya was of view that similar standardization is the basic need to provide viable conditions to the industry inside the country and on other hand it is well needed for the enhancement of exports. Omer Qasim said that Pakistan’s share is negligible in trillions of dollars Halal food Industry, we should focuses on the opportunities in the industry. Syed Farukh Mazher said that increase of exports is largely depends on standardizations and there is need to focus this sector for the sake of economic growth of the country. While responding to the questions of participants of the meeting DG PSQCA told that establishment of a Halal Food Authority would be announced soon. He told that PSQCA has generated 6094 standard on its own and adopted 16059 international standards as per the country’s need and conditions. He said maintaining standard and quality of industrial production is our top most priority along this we also understand the importance of ease of doing business for the prosperity of national economy. Director PSQCA Irshad Ali Ansari, Akhtar A Bughio and prominent industrialist also attended the meeting.
