K-ELECTRIC EXPANDS ITS SOCIAL INVESTMENT PROGRAMME

 

K-Electric and SINA Health Education and Welfare Trust signed an MoU whereby KE will be providing 100% free electricity to the non-profit organization. SINA is the 15th partner in the K-Electric Social Investments Program (SIP), an initiative which empowers institutions working to bring social change to Pakistan by providing them free electricity. The initiative isaimed at extending supports to vital healthcare and educational institutions serving the under-privileged and needy on humanitarian grounds. Other SIP partners include organizations like Indus Hospital, MALC, TCF, SIUT and LRBT. The Social Investments Programme currently impacts 3.4 million people annually.

 

The MoU was signed between Syed Fakhar Ahmed, Chief Marketing and Communications Officer, K-Electric and by Dr. Kamran Iqbal, COO SINA Health, Education and Welfare Trust.

 

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Syed Fakhar Ahmed Chief Marketing and Communications Officer K-Electric said, “Our Social Investment Programme is part of our social responsibility towards the community. We support organizations that are contributing in the area of human welfare. The partnership with SINA is another testament of our initiative to support organizations working for the underprivileged.”

 

Dr. Kamran Iqbal, COO, Sina Trust added “We, at Sina Trust, express our gratitude to KE for partnering with us to manage the energy challenge our not- for-profit organization had been facing. This collaboration and generous support would enable the organization to expand its services to patients most deserving of treatment in 15 urban slums in Karachi, most of whom are women and children. We are certain that this support will go a long way in benefitting both healthcare providers and healthcare consumers by decreasing the cost of providing healthcare in long run.”

 

SINA is a professionally managed not-for-profit organization. Currently, it has 15 primary health care units operating in various urban slum areas of Karachi where more than 300,000 people are being treated annually. The organization aims to increase the number of patients treated annually to more than 1 million by 2018.
