De-bunkering of barge Heng Tong 77 completed in Karachi

According to Karachi Port Trust (KPT), the operation for de-bunkering of barge Heng Tong 77 was completed successfully at 8.00 PM yesterday by a private contractor. Approximately 92.50 tonnes of bunker oil out of 118 tonnes was de-fuelled, added by the shipping agents of owners in Pakistan. No oil spill was reported during retrieving of bunker oil. KPT Marine Pollution Control extended technical advice in this regard.

Meanwhile, the Salvage master and his technical team visiting the grounded site at Sea view beach in Karachi to chalk out a refloat plan of the vessel. Its execution would be carried out with the help of foreign and local expertise and tugs. The plan would be shared with all stakeholders for approval and input. The vessel is likely to be refloated in the middle of the next month when a tide of 3.5 meters would be available to make the refloating soft. At presently, the wave is insufficient compared to the vessel’s draft. Furthermore, security around the ship has been further enhanced to safeguard the craft.
