Cottage industry is an integral part of Economy, Says Secretary Industries

Secretary Ministry of Industry and Commerce, Government of Sindh, Amir Khurshid has said that they are working for the promotion of industrialization in Sindh. Cottage industry is an integral part of every big industry as they are directly connected with the large scale manufacturers.

He expressed these views while addressing a luncheon in his honor at Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI). Patron-in-Chief SM Muneer, President KATI Saleem-uz-Zaman, Vice President Zaki Sharif, Vice President Nighat Awan, Gulzar Feroz, Masood Naqi, Danish Khan, Sheikh Umar Rehan, Rashid Siddiqui, Farrukh Mazhar and other members, Deputy Commissioner Korangi Saleemullah Odho, Additional Secretary of Industries Najeeb Sehto and SSP Korangi Shahnawaz Chachar were also present.

Secretary of Industry and Commerce Sindh Amir Khurshid further said that he would inform the government about the concerns of industrialists and traders on the issue of minimum wage in Sindh and would try to rationalize it equally with other parts of the country. He said that Mehran Town is very unfortunate incident and the government is providing all possible help and financial assistance to the victims and their families. The Secretary Industry and Commerce Sindh further said that they are ready to implement the suggestions of the business community for ease and convenience in business.

Earlier, the Patron-in-Chief KATI SM Muneer, said that the industry in the city was facing many difficulties, including water shortage, and the industrialists were frustrated by the government’s inattention. The government should take the problems of the industrialists seriously.

Welcoming Secretary of Commerce & Industry Sindh Amir Khurshid, KATI President Saleem-uz-Zaman said that the Sindh government has allocated a minimum wage of Rs 25,000 which is higher than other parts of the country, which concerns the business community, hence forcing them to move their businesses to other cities. Patron-in-Chief of KATI SM Muneer, was also disappointed with the cold attitude of the management and shifted all the business to Lahore. Fire tenders were provided to KATI by the government but there is a shortage of skilled staff for this.

KITE CEO Zubair Chhaya said that due to the efforts of SM Muneer, the issues of KATI’s are being heard in high level authorities including the government, Karachi is the economic hub of the country. The Ministry of Industry and Commerce should play its active role in solving the problems of the industrialists.

Chairman Standing Committee on Industry & Commerce Gulzar Feroz said that there has been no progress seem after completion of combined effluent treatment plant after so many years. Deputy Commissioner Korangi Saleemullah Odho said that staff approval has been obtained for KATI fire station and skilled staff will be deployed at the fire station soon. He said that KATI should extend full cooperation for social services and beautification of the industrial area. Masood Naqi, Danish Khan, Sheikh Umar Rehan also spoke on the occasion.
