Commissioner Karachi says four schemes for industrial areas approved

Commissioner Karachi Ejaz Ahmed Khan has said that development schemes for Industrial Areas of the city, approved by CM Sindh Murad Ali Shah, will be implemented till January next year. While addressing a meeting at Korangi Association of Trade & Industry (KATI) he told that four associations representing their industrial areas have presented the plans for their needed projects, we are waiting it from other industrial areas the same and willing to start work on these schemes from the January next year. Khan also told the members of business community gathered at KATI that new traffic plane for the city is underway and would be announced soon. Commissioner admitted that solid waste management has become a severe issue of the city of more than 20 million people, “DMCs are now independent bodies , different DMCs are working on agreements with private companies to collect garbage and waste management, now we are working on coordinate system for the city” he said. Ejaz Khan also promised the business community to raise their concerns about waste management system before CM Sindh.

Prior to this President KATI Masood Naqi welcomed Commissioner Karachi in his opening note and also briefed him about the problems of Korangi Industrial Area. Naqi Said that we lacked discipline in our behavior as a nation; the biggest example of this attitude can be seen in our traffic. He also appreciated the measures taking by commissioner for the implementation of traffic and road safety laws. He told the commissioner about increasing activities of encroachment and street crime in KIA. “Nothing has been changed in the situation of destroyed infrastructure. 3000 ft road of Korangi Industrial area once again become depreciate and crushed due to heavy vehicles” he said. Naqi also demanded to review issued driving licenses of HTVs. President of KATI also said that in the absence a proper public transportation system working class is suffering and industries are also being affected with this indirectly.

Chairmen and CEO of Korangi Industrial Trading Estate (KITE-DMC) and head of KATI’s standing committee on local government Zubair Chhaya raises the issue of illegal dumping of garbage in Malir River area, adjacent to EBM causeway. He said that burning of garbage in the locality is also causing severing health and environment issues and complications. While responding the concerns of industrialists Commissioner Ejaz Ahmed Khan directed DCO Korangi to curb the activities of land mafia and remove encroachments in KIA. He also said that judicial powers of DMCs are now cut down to half but with available legal power and resources I will not compromise on this issue. Commenting on the ruined situation of roads he said that usually road engineers plan the roads of Industrial areas as town roads, due to this flaw roads couldn’t maintained , this issue will be raised with Secretary local bodies, he said. He also said that it has been conveyed to the Traffic police for no fine, but to send jail those are not following the rules and road safety laws. On this occasion former Chairman of KATI Senator Abdul Haseeb Khan, senior vice President of KAT Ghazanfar Ali Khan and other office bearers of KAT, members of business community and representatives of several trade bodies also attended the meeting.
