The market slipped again this week as APG (Asia-Pacific Group, a regional affiliate of the Financial Action Task Force – FATF) retained Pakistan on its enhanced follow-up list based on the country’s performance up until Feb’20, while concerns over rising inflationary levels, news flow citing hurdles over continuation of the IMF program, and aggression from the opposition also dampened sentiment at the index.

PSX index closes positive today

The index bore pressure of political uncertainty where Investors were found having apprehensions from Opposition parties’ protest rallies into full blown protests and sit-ins. Mid-day announcement of HBL’s financial results somewhat turned the tide and helped HBL trade near recent high levels.

Burden of Disease Study (GBD) reveal rising chronic diseases and public health failures, fuelling COVID-19 pandemic

The interaction of COVID-19 with the continued global rise in chronic illness and related risk factors, including obesity, high blood sugar, and outdoor air pollution, over the past 30 years has created a perfect storm, fuelling COVID-19 deaths. The latest findings from the Global Burden of Disease Study (GBD), published today in The Lancet, provide new insights on how well countries were prepared in terms of underlying health for the COVID-19 pandemic, and set out the true scale of the challenge to protect against further pandemic threats.

PM wants improved economic activity through housing: Mian Zahid Hussain

President Pakistan Businessmen and Intellectuals Forum and All Karachi Industrial Alliance, and former provincial minister Mian Zahid Hussain on Prime Minister Imran Khan is determined to improve housing market which will resolve the issue of economic sluggishness.
