Ahfaz-ur-Rehman – a role model journalist

 Memorial Reference for senior journalist Ahfaz-ur-Rehman held at Arts Council Karachi. “Ahfaz-ur-Rehman was a fearless and courageous man who excelled in whatever he did. We have to spread this message that if we can’t speak the truth we shouldn’t lie either” these view were expressed by prominent scholar I. A Rehman in the memorial reference of senior journalist Ahfaz-ur-Rehman held at Arts Council.

It should be noted that Ahfaz-ur -Rehman struggled for the freedom of the press and the journalists. Rehman also wrote and translated many books.

Further, he said “Rehman paid more attention to the children because he wanted to improve and educate our next generation”

Ahfaz-ur-Rehman was a role model, being a journalist he fought for the rights of journalists, he never compromised on his values despite so many hardships in his life – Said Ahmed Shah

“Ahfaz-ur-Rehman wanted to unite and gather everyone on one platform He is might not here physically but he will always be alive in the form of genuine people. He had a very close relationship with Arts Council Karachi. He wanted this institution to last forever” Shah added

Addressing the event Dr. Syed Jaffar Ahmad said that a progressive angle can be seen in Rehman’s articles and poems. He believed that action without knowledge and knowledge without action wastes human endeavors. His life-giving efforts will always be remembered.

Hussain Naqi said that Ahfaz-ur-Rehman was a well-educated man. He formed an organization in the 1950s for the independence of journalists and their rights.

The prominent journalist Khursheed Tanveer said “Ahfaz-ur-Rehman has never been needed in Pakistan’s history as he is needed today. Freedom of expression was the aim of Ahfaz-ur-Rehman for which he always struggled but sadly it could not survive in this country. This gathering is an indication that those who respect him have kept their love alive in their hearts.

Tahir Najmi said that he was a poet, a writer, and a journalist who fought for the freedom of expression in his whole life. It is difficult to find contradictions in the words and deeds of the Rehman who have been part of the journalists’ movement and the youth leadership.

Iqbal Khurshid said that Ahfaz-ur-Rehman was a man of his principles, he always spoke the truth in a very polite and soft way.

Ahfaz-ur-Rehman’s wife said that it is a great challenge to be the wife of an all-rounder. Those who have worked with Ahfaz know very well. No one knows the role the Arts Council has played in the last days of Rehman rather than me, I am grateful to everyone

On this occasion, renowned poet Mansoor Sahir recited a poem by Fazil Jameeli while Dr. Syed Jafar Ahmed recited excerpts from the writings of Ahfaz-ur-Rehman. A video message of Ahfaz-ur-Rehman’s son was also played at the ceremony. Leading dancer Sheema Kirmani performed a dance while the singer enchanted the audience with his performance.
