Thar Foundation establishes another free hospital in Thar

After benefiting thousands of patients from Thar Block II villages through the Marvi Clinic, the Thar Foundation has set up a similar establishment in Thar where lady doctor will be available to provide treatment and medicine free of cost to Gorano and surrounding areas.

The Gorano Mother & Child Health Center, inaugurated in a ceremony held on Monday, will benefit about 20,000 population and mothers, newborns, and children will not have to spend thousands on transportation alone while going to Islamkot or Mithi for treatment of even minor illnesses. The establishment of health center is another basic facility provided by the Thar Foundation in the area after construction of quality primary schools and non-stop supply of safe drinking water to the area residents.

The clinic will help reducing infant and maternal mortality rate in the area, said speakers at the inauguration ceremony. They also told that the Marvi Clinic and newly inaugurated Gorano Mother & Child Health Center will function as feeding clinics for the under-construction 200-bed Thar Foundation Hospital at Islamkot.

Speaking at the occasion, Sikandar Sangrasi, a resident of the village Gorano said that they faced a lot of hardships in dealing with the mother & child health. “We had to travel about 40kms to Islamkot even for minor infections,” he said adding that he was thankful to the Thar Foundation and Sindh Engro Coal Mining Company (SECMC) which have collaborated to establish the clinic at Gorano for provision of medical facilities and medicine free of cost.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Shahida, appointed at the clinic, said that it will be her priority to provide best possible consultation and treatment to mothers and children of the area. She called upon the women of the area to visit the clinic right away and get free consultation.

Speaking at the occasion, Chairman Islamkot Town Mr Kamlesh Lohano said, “The establishment of a health clinic for the people of Gorano and surrounding villages is a welcome step and the Foundation deserves acclaim for its steps to provide health facilities through its dedicate program.”

Sharing his opinion, Site Director at Engro Powergen Thar Limited (EPTL) Mr Asim Saeed said that Engro was not just mining coal and setting up power plants, but it was also putting in a lot of efforts for the development of the area. General Manager Projects at SECMC said, “The Thar Foundation has taken this significant step (of establishing a clinic) considering the importance of Mother & Child Health.”

He appreciated the support extended by the Sindh Government’s Health Department and District Administration of Tharparkar in making it possible. He told the participants that Marvi Clinic and Gorano Mother & Child Health Center will function as feed clinics for the Thar Foundation Hospital which is under construction at Islamkot.

Fayaz Soomro of the Thar Foundation said that the Foundation and SECMC were utilizing all possible resources to provide maximum benefit to the local population. He said that they would take care of mothers & children of the area with the help of a qualified lady doctor.

Speaking at the occasion, Manager Education at Thar Foundation Ms. Sabeen Shah said that it was the Foundation’s target to provide quality services in the fields of health, education, and drinking water. “Establishing of the clinic at Gorano is part of the Thar Foundation’s commitment in the health sector,” she said.

The Thar Foundation’s Dr Ashok Bakhtani said that their Foundation has provided excellent facilities to local population in health, education, and drinking water besides creating many livelihood opportunities for them.

The ceremony was attended by scores of villagers from Gorano and surrounding villages. Umair Aslam Butt, Jehan Ara, Major Naveed, Awais Mahar, Dr Mitharam, Naseer Junejo, Fayaz Shaikh, and other addressed the gathering.
